Phil Campbell experiences car ‘break-ins’

The small town of Phil Campbell was abuzz with news of weekend car burglaries last weekend. Despite social media reports, the outbreak was small and targeted at populated apartment complexes around the city.
“It’s an outbreak, I guess, of people going around and going through cars,” said Phil Campbell Police Chief Merrell Potter. “We had three. They weren’t actually break-ins. They were people who had left their vehicles unlocked at some of the housing complexes around. No damage was done to the vehicles.”
Potter said the thieves rifled through unlocked vehicles looking for electronics such as cell phones and tablets. It happened in the overnight hours of Friday, Oct. 23. Drivers woke up Saturday morning to find their valuables missing.
Potter said Russellville Police had several similar reports that same night, but Russellville PD could not comment on the number of complaints filed.
Potter said if anyone has a tip on where to find these thieves, call the Phil Campbell Police Department at 205-993-5313 to leave an anonymous tip.
