FCSO pursues shooting suspect

Officials are searching for suspect Leobardo Navarrette Donagustin after a shooting that occurred Aug. 27 around 2 p.m. at a residence in the Mountain Star community of Franklin County, according to Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

“There’s not a lot we know right now about the cause of the situation. It’s still being investigated,” Oliver said.

Oliver said investigators do know Donagustin allegedly fled on foot, and the victim was shot multiple times. The victim is at Huntsville Hospital and in stable condition, according to the most recent update Oliver received.

“It’s been a joint effort working the case,” Oliver said.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Russellville Police Department and Alabama state troopers all responded to the scene. Later in the search efforts, the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force joined in, as well as other surrounding agencies, to help locate Donagustin.

Oliver said this is not Donagustin’s first run-in with the law. In Franklin County, Donagustin has had previous drug-related arrests.
