Belgreen gets tournament win

The Belgreen Bulldogs got a big 62-37 win over Marion County to open the Wallace State Community College Christmas Tournament last week.

Marion County opened the game with an 11-9 first quarter lead over the Bulldogs. Belgreen, however, outscored the Red Raiders 53-26 the rest of the way.

Belgreen outscored Marion County 19-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-19 halftime lead and extended the lead to 46-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Autumn Bragwell led Belgreen with 18 points. Emma Dempsey and Emma Willingham followed with 12 points and 11 points respectively. Katie Dempsey added eight points, Gracie Dempsey six points, Gabbie Moore five points and Megan Smith two points.

Belgreen hit seven three-pointers in the game.

Belgreen 46, Decatur Heritage 39

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Decatur Heritage Eagles in the Wallace State Community College Christmas Tournament Dec. 20, 46-39.

Belgreen trailed Decatur Heritage 7-5 at the end of the first quarter but dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 18-9 to take a 23-16 halftime lead. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 34-26 at the end of the third quarter en route to the win.

Emma Dempsey led Belgreen with 18 points. Gracie Dempsey followed with 10 points. Autumn Bragwell added five points, Gabbie Moore four points, Ansley Tate four points, Katie Dempsey three points and Emma Willingham two points.
