Volleyball season continues for RHS with road matches

The Russellville High School volleyball team got into the swing of things for this season with a busy week on the varsity volleyball court to wrap up the month of August.

Head coach Whitney Glover’s Lady Golden Tigers went to Decatur High School Aug. 25 and took on the Red Raiders and the Lee-Huntsville Generals, coming away with a split.

Against Lee High, RHS got the win 2-0. Game scores were 25-14 and 25-19 in favor of the Lady Golden Tigers. Abby Green helped lead the way to victory with three kills, 10 aces and four assists. Jayna Poss also starred with four kills and two aces for Russellville.

RHS fell to the home-standing Decatur High School team, as the Red Raiders got the sweep by a 2-0 total. Game scores went the way of DHS by a 25-16 and 25-14 tally.

Green had five kills and six assists, and Poss picked up four kills and two blocks. Jenna Whitfield pitched in with five digs on defense for the RHS squad.

Haleyville High School was the scene Aug. 27 for a match between Russellville and the Lady Lions. Russellville fell to HHS in the contest by a 3-0 total. Game scores were 25-8, 25-8 and 25-19 for the Lady Lions’ sweep.

Green was a standout again for RHS with five kills, eight assists, two aces, two blocks and three digs. Poss also played well on both sides of the net with seven kills and three blocks. Leah Rushing helped out with five assists and eight digs, while senior Ashlyn DeArman totaled five digs and two blocks on defense. Anna Beth Oliver had three kills, and Whitfield finished the contest with six digs for RHS.

Belgreen hosted Russellville and R.A. Hubbard Aug. 31. RHS defeated the Chiefs 2-0 but were swept by the Lady Bulldogs.

Versus R.A. Hubbard, Russellville won by game scores of 25-18 and 25-7. Abby Green had 22 assists, two kills and three aces. Oliver had seven kills, two aces and two digs, while Caroline Sparks had eight kills and Natalie Nichols had five aces.

BHS defeated Russellville (3-3) by scores of 25-16 and 25-13. Green had 14 assists and two kills for the Lady Golden Tigers, and Poss had four kills and two aces. Rushing added seven digs, and Whitfield had eight, while Sparks picked up six kills for RHS.
