Bobcats improve records to close regular season
Phil Campbell 88, Phillips 54
The Phil Campbell Bobcats beat the Phillips Bears 88-54 this past week.
Phil Campbell raced out to a 20-12 first quarter lead and led 38-30 at halftime. The Bobcat boys extended their lead to 66-49 at the end of the third quarter and put the game away in the fourth, outscoring Phillips 22-5.
Cam Habada led Phil Campbell with 21 points. He was followed by Sage Raper with 17 points, Canaan Clay with 14 points and Quentin Hyde with 13 points. Cole Pace and Blain Goodson added seven points each, and Seth Hutcheson scored two points.
Phil Campbell 63, Tharptown 52
Hyde scored 16 points to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the Tharptown Wildcats 63-52.
Tharptown jumped out to a 19-13 lead early, but the Bobcats dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 22-10 to take a 35-29 halftime lead.
Phil Campbell extended that lead to 50-40 at the end of the third quarter.
Clay followed Hyde, scoring 13 points, and Godson scored 11. Kyle Pace added nine points, Habada six points, Raper four points and Cole Pace two points.
Dylan Valdez led Tharptown with 15 points followed by Blake Daily with 11 points. Malachi Minor added eight points, Edwin Vela six points, Alexis Quezada five points, Tyler Amos four points and Jackson Clement three points.
The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats won four straight games this past week, beating Tharptown 50-42, Haleyville 47-44, Danville 46-40 and Belgreen 43-38.
Phil Campbell 50, Tharptown 42
After losing to Tharptown early in the season and in the finals of the Franklin County Tournament, the Bobcats finally got their revenge beating the Wildcats 50-42 on the Wildcats’ home court.
Phil Campbell held a solid 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Tharptown battled back to cut the lead to 23-20 at halftime. Phil Campbell regained control of the game in the third quarter, taking a 40-31 lead.
Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 13 points, followed by Kenner Scott with 12 points and Madison Branch with 11 points. Faith Cook added eight points, Jade Roberson four points and Hannah Welborn two points.
Autumn Montgomery led Tharptown with 15 points, followed by Savannah Romans with 12 points and Sarah Mansell with 11 points. Kaitlyn Simmons and Gracie Montgomery scored two points each.
Phil Campbell 47, Haleyville 44
Cook led Phil Campbell past the Haleyville Lions 47-44. Cook scored 19 points, making four three-pointers.
The Lions led the Bobcats 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and 24-19 at halftime. Phil Campbell trimmed Haleyville’s lead to 36-33 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Lions 14-8 in the fourth to take the lead and win.
Phil Campbell 46, Danville 40
Phil Campbell closed out area play undefeated, beating Danville 46-40.
The Bobcats led the Hawks 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and 23-17 at halftime. Danville cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 32-28 at the end of the third quarter, but the Bobcats were able to fend off a fourth–quarter comeback attempt by the Hawks.
Phil Campbell 43, Belgreen 38
Phil Campbell held off Belgreen to win the 43-38 on senior night.
The Bobcats led the Bulldogs 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. Belgreen took the lead at halftime, 18-17. Phil Campbell outscored Belgreen 13-7 at the end of the third quarter to take a 30-25 lead and held on for the win.
Branch led Phil Campbell with 12 points, followed by Scott with 11 points.
Dacota Green led Belgreen with 12 points, making three three-pointers. She was followed by Noelle Willingham with 11 points and Isabella Tate with 10 points. Alayana Tate scored three points, and B.B. Scott added two points.
