Belgreen, Phil Campbell volleyball teams see action

Franklin County volleyball teams met on Thursday for what could easily be misunderstood to be the Franklin County tournament. Instead, it was the precursor to the tournament. The quad match, held at Tharptown, was to determine seeding for the Franklin County tournament Oct. 7 at Red Bay.

In the quad match, all four Franklin County teams played each other. Belgreen earned the top seed by going undefeated, beating Tharptown, Red Bay and Phil Campbell. Phil Campbell earned the number two seed, beating Tharptown and Red Bay, but losing to Belgreen.

When tournament play begins in early October, Belgreen will play Tharptown in tournament play, and Phil Campbell will open with Red Bay. The tournament will be single elimination.

The junior high and junior varsity county tournament will be held at Red Bay Oct. 4.

Belgreen hosted the annual Bulldog Bash volleyball tournament on Sat. The host school swept their way through the tournament pool play and earned the championship trophy, beating Covenant Christian in the championship game.

Phil Campbell’s junior varsity team finished runner up in their division of the tournament. The Bobcats went undefeated in pool play, winning three straight before losing in the championship game to Covenant Christian.
