Saturday brings Easter Bunny, prescription drug take back

Spring has finally sprung and, with that, comes our annual county Easter Egg hunts and other free activities.
On Friday, hop on over to the Russellville Public Library from 3-5 p.m. to have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny.
Saturday brings events offering opportunities for Franklin County folks to have fun together in the great outdoors, maybe even winning a prize or two along the way.
Russellville kicks off the day’s festivities with an egg hunt at 10 a.m. at the Russellville High School football practice field (Pork Chop), followed by Phil Campbell at 12 p.m. in Memorial Park and Red Bay at 3 p.m. in Bay Tree Park.
An Easter egg hunt was scheduled in Vina at an earlier date and had to be canceled. Because of other activities at the park, it will not be held this year.
On a more serious note, the DEA’s national prescription drug Take Back Day is also this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Russellville Walmart (13675 Hwy 43). Bring your unused, unwanted or expired medication for safe disposal.
Accepted items include vitamins, prescription medication (Schedule II-V controlled and non-controlled substances), prescription patches, prescription ointments, pet medication, over-the-counter medication and vapes.
Items not accepted include needles, inhalers, thermometers, aerosol cans, lotions, liquids or hydrogen peroxide.
The event is sponsored by the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Prevention Program. Enter for your chance to win a $100 Walmart gift card by bringing in your unwanted medications and vapes.
