Phil Campbell splits series with Colbert County

The Phil Campbell Bobcats face unfamiliar territory. Their playoff hopes are out of their hands and in the fate of two Colbert County rivals. Phil Campbell beat Colbert County 7-5 in game one of the area series but lost 6-1 in game two. The series split, along with an earlier split with Colbert Heights, put the Bobcats playoff streak in jeopardy. Phil Campbell needs one or the other of the Colbert County teams to sweep their upcoming series.

In game one, Koltin Hester had his best game of the season on the mound and at the plate. Hester hit a crucial 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Phil Campbell a big lead they later had to fend off.  On the mound, Hester went six innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and he struck out six.

When Hester found himself in a jam late in the game, Eli Taylor entered the game in relief to shut down the Indians.

Chandler Benford picked up two hits, a RBI and scored a run for the Bobcats. Braxton Mayfield singled in two runs and scored. Bentley Hill got a hit and scored a run. Eli Taylor also singled in two runs. Isac Hill doubled and scored twice.

In game two, things didn’t go as well for the Bobcats. Although Phil Campell matched Colbert County hit for hit, the Bobcats left the bases loaded twice, unable to capitalize leading to a 6-1 loss.

Cody Quinn had two hits. Hill, Benford, Mayfield, Taylor and Cale Faust all had one hit each.

Taylor pitched the complete game after his relief appearance in game one but took the loss in game two.

Phil Campbell played a game three against the Indians and won 13-6.

Hester went two-for-three with a double, earned three RBI and scored three runs. Quinn had two hits with a double, two RBI and scored a run. Faust had two hits with a double and two RBI.

Faust also got the win on the mound for the Bobcats.
