Red Bay sweeps through first round

The Red Bay Tigers (15-6) swept the Lamar County Bulldogs in the first round of the Class 2A baseball playoffs over the weekend, 6-3 and 2-1.

The Tigers will host North Sand Mountain (21-9) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

In game one, Red Bay scored six runs on 10 hits. The Tigers got the scoring started in the top of the first inning on a RBI-double by Reed Hamilton.

Lamar County tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, 1-1.

Red Bay had a run explosion in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Jeramiah Thorne started things off with two RBI, single scoring Holden Inmon and Eli Farris to give Red Bay a 3-1 lead. L. Lewey scored on an infield single by Ty Reynolds to increase the lead to 4-1. Carson McGee knocked in Reynolds and Dalla Terrell on a line drive to left field, extending Red Bay’s lead to 6-1.

Thorne got the win, going five innings and allowing three hits and striking out seven.

Thorne, Terrell and Farris each had two hits in the game.

Game two went down to the wire.

In the bottom of the seventh, with bases loaded and the game tied, Dallas Terrell was hit by a Lamar County pitch, bringing the winning run (Ayden Pruitt) across the plate.

A RBI-single by Reed Hamilton put the Tigers on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Ty Reynolds.

Reynolds was stellar on the mound, pitching a complete game no-hitter and striking out 12.

Lamar County’s lone run came on a passed ball and botched pickoff attempt.
