Chamber hosts Easter egg hunts

Hippity-hoppity, Easter’s on its way – and, along with it, the annual Easter Egg Hunts hosted by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

March 19 will be a day of candy-filled eggs, an energetic Easter bunny and – everyone’s favorite – prize bicycles for a few lucky children in Red Bay and Russellville, donated by local businesses.

The Russellville hunt will be at 10 a.m. at Eastside Ballpark. The Red Bay hunt will be at 2 p.m. at Bay Tree Park.

Chamber Director Cassie Medley said children enjoy “hunting eggs, visiting with the Easter Bunny, finding prizes in their eggs and waiting to see if they won a bike or an Easter basket.” Children in 5th grade and younger are invited to participate and should bring along an Easter basket to collect their eggs – more than a thousand split across the two hunts – filled with candy, toys and prize money.

Hunts will be divided by age group: 5 and younger or 6 and older.

The hunts have been a Franklin County tradition for more than five years. In addition to bicycles and prize eggs, a big draw is one “legendary” special guest – the Easter bunny, who is brought to life by Junior Leaders. “They greet the kiddos, dance around and take photos with the kids,” Medley said.

Bicycles are donated by local businesses.
