FCSO arrests one for assault on deputies
When deputies went to serve a Vina man with a felony probation warrant, he did what might be considered the opposite of “coming quietly.”
“It was near midnight Friday, and deputies went to 8036 Highway 19 in Vina to serve a felony probation warrant for Jody Wayne Raper,” Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.
Raper, 42, had skipped out on probation following charges methamphetamine charges. When deputies entered the residence to look for him, they encountered a man in the kitchen, Darin Scott Stanphill. Oliver said when officers started to pat Stanphill down, checking for weapons, he attempted to prevent them from discovering methamphetamine on his person and was subsequently charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, chemical endangerment of a child and resisting arrest.
Outside the residence, a reserve deputy confronted a man coming out of shed who turned out to be Raper. Oliver said Raper originally told the deputy a false name and then took off into the woods. Deputies pursued, but when they encountered Raper, he attempted to take one deputy’s gun and successfully wrangled one deputy’s taser. After a few minutes struggle, deputies were able to take Raper into custody.
Raper was charged with two counts of assault second on a police officer; attempt to disarm a police officer; disarming a police officer; and looting of law enforcement, among a couple assorted other charges
Raper is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail without bond.
