Jamie Medley’s new business venture is in motion. Home James provides event transportation for occasions like weddings, concerts and more.

“We just saw a niche – something that was needed. There is really nothing around like this.”

That’s how Jamie Medley described the inspiration behind his recent business venture. The business in question? Home James.

The transportation service boasts a six-seater electric vehicle that Medley said offers a “higher-end” experience than a golf cart, which some rent for similar purposes, comes complete with a driver and is “100 percent street legal,” Medley said. “On any public road posted at 35 miles per hour or lower, I’m street legal there.”

Home James caters to weddings, concerts and other special events, like VIP tours or “anything where someone doesn’t want to make their guests walk through the hot or the cold to get to the front door,” Medley said. “A wedding for example – some of the large churches have huge parking lots. Who wants to walk from half a mile away in 100-degree heat when you can just hop in and we’ll drive you right up to the door?”

Home James had its soft opening at the Russellville High School Kudzu Klassic in late September, giving free rides and handing out promotional materials, which Medley said was well-received. He and business partner Savanna Congleton, who handles marketing and business strategy, are now in the process of lining up major contracts for Home James.

Medley said it was his wife Cassie, who is director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, who came up with the name.

“She was supportive from the get-go,” he said.

The vehicle has a range of about 50 miles per battery charge and a top speed of 25 miles per hour; average speed, Medley said, is about 10 miles per hour.

In his day job, Medley works for the health department. He said it’s not too challenging to operate a side business like Home James because so many major events take place on the weekends – like Russellville’s Trunk-or-Treat, where he plans to showcase the company, Oct. 31.
