RMS to host book fair, coin drive

Russellville Middle School will host a Scholastic Book Fair Feb. 16-24 during school hours in the RMS Media Center, and community members are invited and encouraged to attend. The book fair offers books and educational products, including popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers and other great reads from dozens of publishers. By supporting this book fair, customers will be directly supporting the school since funds raised during the fair will help purchase books for the media center as well as classroom libraries through the Classroom Wish List program.

RMS will host a special Family Night Feb. 16 from 3-5 p.m. to provide an additional opportunity to support the Fair and will feature contests, door prizes and a photo booth.

In conjunction with the book fair, RMS will also participate in the All for Books program, which is a coin drive that allows students and teachers to donate loose change to purchase books for the RMS media center and other RMS classrooms. Scholastic Book Fairs matches those monetary donations with a donation of up to $1M in books from The Scholastic Possible Fund, which distributes books to children in need through organizations such as Kids in Distressed Situations and the Kids In Need Foundation. RMS Library Media Specialist Brianne Roberts said the school raised more than $600 for this program in the fall.

The coin drive will run from Feb. 6-10. Anyone interested in donating to this cause can send money to RMS with a student or can drop off donations in the front office.
