RHS girls take on Wallace tournament
Buckhorn 5, Russellville 2
Russellville and Buckhorn were two of 26 schools scheduled to participate in the two-day Wallace State High School Softball Tournament held at the Heritage Park Complex in Cullman.
March 2 RHS fell to Buckhorn in a four-inning game. It was the second time the Lady Golden Tigers have faced the Lady Bucks already this season, with BHS taking the win both times.
Russellville played the 6A opponent closer this time around, outhit 6-4. Alivia Clemmons, AJ Taylor, Autumn Logan and Chalea Clemmons all had hits for RHS. The hits by Chalea Clemmons and Taylor were doubles. Karlie Moore reached base on a walk, and Taylor had the lone RBI for Russellville.
Right-hander Megan Warhurst got the start in the pitching circle for RHS. She threw 33 pitches, giving up three earned runs, three hits and three walks. She struck out one in less than an inning of work before Chalea Clemmons came on in relief.
Clemmons pitched 3.1 innings, and neither of her two runs allowed were of the earned variety. She threw 53 pitches and gave up three hits and two walks, and she struck out one Buckhorn batter.
Russellville 6, Boaz 0
The Lady Golden Tigers evened their record at 2-2 on the season with a dominating win over the 5A Lady Pirates in Russellville’s second game of the day March 2.
RHS jumped on the opponent with five runs in the top half of the first inning and scored another run in the final frame of the four-inning contest.
Warhurst pitched a complete game and got the shutout win. She threw 62 pitches and gave up one hit, struck out five and walked three batters.
Madison Murray went 2-2 at the plate, and Alivia Clemmons went 2-3. One of the hits by Clemmons was a triple, and Moore also had an extra-base hit when she smacked a double.
Taylor and Logan also had hits for RHS, and Murray added a stolen base. Warhurst and Makala O’Neal both reached base on a walk, and Alivia Clemmons scored two runs, while Jenna Whitfield, Maddie Green, Moore and Murray scored a run each.
RBIs for Russellville were picked up by Taylor, Moore and Murray.
Russellville is scheduled to return to action at home March 7 as the Lady Golden Tigers host Austin High School.
