Red Bay Tigers fall in Class 2A regionals

The Red Bay Tigers lost two tight games in the Class 2A North Regional, eliminating them from post-season play. The Tigers lost to Winston County 5-4 and Fyffe 5-3.

“I am very proud of the accomplishments this season,” said Red Bay coach Shane Nichols. “These girls worked really hard and accomplished more than they expected this season, both personally and as a team. I am very proud of the effort and energy they put into the season.”

In game one, a Red Bay comeback attempt fell just short, as the Tigers fell to Winston County 5-4.

The Tigers led 1-0 after two innings, but the Yellow Jackets scored four in the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Red Bay scored one in the bottom half of the inning to make it 4-2.

Winston County got the run back in the sixth to make the score 5-2, and the Tigers scored two in the sixth to cut Winston County’s lead to 5-4. Red Bay had a chance to get the win in the seventh but stranded two runners on base.

Red Bay got two hits each by Annalise Rogers and Lila Blackburn. Emma McCollister had a double and scored two runs.

Chloe Knoblock gave up nine hits and four earned runs and struck out four.

Game two lasted through the weekend because of a weather suspension. The game started Saturday and was completed Monday.

Red Bay scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Fyffe answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Fyffe sealed the deal in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three more runs to take a 5-3 lead.

Red Bay outhit Fyffe 7-4 but just couldn’t produce runs.

Lila Blackburn had a double and two RBIs and scored a run. Annaliese Rogers doubled and scored a run. Layla Bilstein and Sarah Eaton had two hits each.
