Tharptown welcomes back first graduating class
When members of the Tharptown High School Class of 2009 walked into their new school building in 2007 as juniors, they became a part of history at Tharptown, on a long list of many firsts. A decade later, the first-ever graduating class of Tharptown High is returning for the 10-year class reunion.
The class will reunite for an alumni tea from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, before the football game starts. Event organizer Melissa Harrison said attendees will enjoy refreshments and a lot of old photos, to bring up old memories.
“I’m so excited about seeing them back – and really the whole school is excited about seeing them back,” Harrison said.
Tharptown High School Secretary Christy Dill said this graduating class will always have a special place at Tharptown because of its place in history.
“They were our first for everything, so they’re a pretty special group,” Dill said.
The Class of 2009 began at Tharptown as juniors and were the first-ever junior and senior class. Harrison said everyone at the school has been excited about planning the first-ever Tharptown reunion and has been working on it since last year.
“We’ve been planning this for a long time because we’re really excited about it,” Harrison said. “We’ve been real excited about this class ever since they graduated.”
Harrison said so far she has had about half of the graduating class RSVP, but she expects more responses to come in.
“It’s unbelievable to me that it’s time for them to come back to their 10-year reunion,” Harrison added. “But I’m so excited about seeing all of them. A lot of them have moved off and have careers and have started families, so I’m excited to hear about all of that.”
