Tharptown girls finish runner-up

The Tharptown Wildcat softball program got off to a hot start under new coach Brooklyn Clark, finishing runner-up in the Lynn Invitational.

The Wildcats lost to Oakman in the finals 6-2, but there were plenty of highlights in the run up to the finals, with Tharptown beating Fayette County, Vina, Dora and Addison.

Shaylee Wieting’s walk-off double propelled Tharptown into the finals by beating Fayette County 4-3. The Wildcats had nine hits in the game, with Taylor Cameron posting two of the nine.

Leslie Staggs had two RBIs and a double. Abby Best had an RBI and a triple. Olivia Ergle got the win, striking out four batters and giving up four hits and three earned runs.

Tharptown had a big 12-3 win over the Vina Red Devils. The Wildcats outhit the Red Devils 15-1.

Ergle and Staggs both belted home runs. Staggs had a two-hit, four-RBI game.

The Wildcats also got two hits from Madison Vandiver, Cameron, Brooke Daily and Ergle.

Madison Vandiver got the win, striking out five and allowing one hit.

Tharptown also got a blowout win over Dora 12-2.

Kyndall Morgan had a two-homer game to lead the Wildcats. Wieting went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs. Tharptown got two hits each from Ergle, Daily and Madison Vandiver. Cameron got the win, striking out six  and giving up one hit.

The Wildcats got the tournament started with a 4-3 win over Addison. Ergle struck out 13 batters in the win. Morgan scored two runs.
