BHS senior commits to play softball at next level

Belgreen’s Emma Dempsey will get a chance to continue her softball playing career and her education when she graduates in a few months. Dempsey announced on Facebook that she has committed to play at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

“I love everything about Northeast. I went and visited Northeast, and I committed the same night because I knew that’s where I wanted to be,” said Dempsey.

The rising senior has been working hard to stay sharp during the past few months and she she looks forward to improving her skills.

“I look forward most to practicing and playing softball at a higher level. To stay prepared, I have been working out, playing travel softball and going to pitching lessons,” she said. “They want me to focus on pitching quality innings at Northeast.”

Dempsey was selected to the North All-Star team as a softball and basketball player; both events were cancelled as a result of the virus outbreak. Dempsey also made the Class 1A Terrific 20 list this year.

“As Emma’s coach, I can’t speak highly enough about her hard work, dedication and love for the game in softball,” said Belgreen coach Susie Tverberg. “Her competitive nature and desire to be the best will be the driving force that helps her succeed at the next level, not only in softball but in life.

“I am happy to see the process she has committed fully to become a reality that makes it all worthwhile.  She deserves it.”
