Belgreen baseball starts season strong

The Belgreen Bulldogs baseball team started strong, picking up a pair of wins over the weekend. Belgreen beat Lynn 5-1 and Meek 4-2.

Canaan Stough came in and shut down a late rally by the Meek Lions to help Belgreen win 4-2.

Belgreen got on the board in the first inning when Landon Cox scored on a passed ball, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The score remained locked at 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning, when the Meek pitching broke down. Stough reached base on a single and remained there with two outs until Meek walked five straight batters.

Stough, Landon Cox and Carson Cox all came around to score, giving Belgreen a 4-0 lead.

Meek scored two in the bottom half of the inning before Stough came in to strike out the side and save the game.

Carson Cox was the winning pitcher, going the first two innings on the mound, striking out five and not allowing a run.

Belgreen 5, Lynn 1

Cole King powered the Belgreen Bulldogs to a 5-1 lead over Lynn. King had two hits, including a double and two RBIs, and he scored a run from the leadoff spot.

The Bulldogs scored all the runs they needed in a four-run fourth inning. King got things started with his two-run double scoring Chandler Welch and Will King. Stough scored on an error by the third baseman. Cole King later scored on a passed ball.

Brodie Vandiver got the win, pitching three scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing one hit.
