The Meridian Community College baseball team used a nine-run sixth inning to take a 12-5 win from visiting Bevill State Thursday at Scaggs Field.
Chord Robinson pitched seven strong innings to take the win in his first start for the Eagles and the MCC offense produced four home runs.
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Meridian's Antoin Gray led off with a home run. Justin McMullan and Dustin Cliburn also had homers in the inning. Cliburn's home run was a monster grandslam.
First year MCC coach Russ McNickle, whose team upped its record to 3-1 on the year, liked the big inning.
MCC never trailed after the sixth. Derrick Gillaspy came on in relief for the final two innings, allowing one hit.
Cliburn led the Eagle batters, going two-for-five, with a pair of home runs and six RBI. Gray was three-for-five with a home run and a double. Former Meridian High standout Tyler Scarbrough was two-for-four, scoring one run and collecting two stolen bases.
The Eagles will return to action Friday when they host Panola Community College from Texas in the Rush Invitational at 3 p.m.
