Close finish on Class A links

Three golf teams cut its tickets punched to the Mississippi Private Schools Association overall tournament at the Naval and Air Base golf course.
Winston Academy, Desoto Academy and Prentiss Christian finished first, second and third, respectively, at the MPSA Class A tournament on Thursday to advance to the overall championship.
Winston Academy captured the top spot of the one-day event with a final score of 315.
The champion's victory came down to the wire, as the golfers crowded around the scoreboard waiting for the final results.
Desoto Academy finished in second place with a 321, and Prentiss Christian took third place with a 333. The top three finishers advanced to the overall tourney.
Eaves started his medalist tournament performance in strong fashion.
The sophomore linkster, who started the day on the 16th hole, birdied his first three holes en route to his championship round.
Eaves was the only player at the tournament to finish with a score under par.
Desoto Academy's Gina Sharp, one of two female golfers in the event, led her squad with a 4-over-par 76 performance.
The freshman golfer was the second medalist in the tournament, and she birdied the par-5 hole 9 and the par-4 hole 1 on her way to her second place individual finish.
Glenbrook Academy ended the day in fourth place with a 340; Claiborne Academy and Strider Academy tied for fifth with a 353; Delta Academy finished in sixth with a 353; Riverdale Academy shot a 369 for seventh; and Newton County hit a 387 in the tournament.
Glenbrook Academy's Travis Myers was a third medalist with a 78, and Trinity Academy's Lee Jones won a playoff hole against Desoto Academy's Josh Wilson to capture the fourth medal with a 79.
The MPSA Overall State Tournament will be played at Northwood on Tuesday.
