Mississippi State University President J. Charles Lee said Tuesday that MSU is leading the charge in downtown revitalization and returning Meridian to its former glory
Preliminary work already has started on the Grand Opera House and the Marks-Rothenberg building both of which will make up the Riley Education and Performing Arts Center.
Lee was in Meridian to attend the Bulldog Family Celebration at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus. Lee has been MSU president since January after serving much of 2002 a interim president.
Lee said he has adjusted to his new role as the school's 17th chief executive.
Lee said he was glad to attend the Tuesday event.
Lee said MSU-Meridian Campus is a major part of Mississippi State University.
Lee said MSU is involved in many other activities besides education.
