The Queen City All-American Soap Box Derby hits the course this morning at 9 with 20 drivers set to compete in the race.
Fifteen boys and five girls will go shooting down Meridian's 23rd Avenue at speeds nearing 30 miles per hour for a shot at a trip to the national competition in Akron, Ohio.
After opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. and the National Anthem, the racers will get started in the double-elimination event.
Fans will be able to line the race course to watch the drivers come flying down the road.
Last year the fans were treated to a victory by Seth Tibbetts over Justin Scarbrough by just .313 seconds. This year's race should be just as exciting.
Each match will consist of two heats with the driver with the fastest combined time advancing.
Last year, the race returned to the Meridian area after a 30-year absence for an exciting day of racing.
