While an out-of-town blood service plans a Saturday blood drive at Bonita Lakes Mall, Meridian-based United Blood Services, which serves local hospitals, has scheduled six blood drives in the near future.
UBS spokesman Jane Smith said the upcoming schedule includes a blood drive on Aug. 6 at the Lockheed Martin plant in the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Industrial Park. Smith said employees at the plant have always been very responsive at giving blood through as many as eight blood drives a year.
Mississippi Blood Services, which is conducting the drive at the mall, does not service Meridian area hospitals, and Smith said she hopes donors recognize that difference.
UBS also services hospitals in nearby communities, such as Philadelphia, Newton, Union, York, Ala., and Demopolis, Ala.
Besides the Lockheed Martin blood drive, the other blood drives scheduled in the near future include:
Thursday, 10 a.m-4 p.m. East Mississippi State Hospital, Recreation Hall;
Friday, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sears (Bloodmobile will be parked at the merchandise pick-up area;
Sunday, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 186th Air Refueling Wing, Key Field;
Aug. 6, 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Lauderdale community blood drive, at Lauderdale United Methodist Church; and,
Aug. 9, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Bloodmobile will be receiving donors during grand opening of Chunky River Harley Davidson on South Frontage Road near Bonita Lakes Mall.
