Lady Trojans run well at Monticello

MONTICELLO The Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans won the Lawrence County Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday at Atwood Water Park.
In the 4,000 meter run, Northeast had 35 points, while Meridian came in second with 55. Completing the field were Lawrence County (70), McComb (101), Quitman (110), and Crystal Springs (170).
Teshae Portis of Northeast was the overall girls' winner with a time of 18:33. Second place went to Quitman's Danesha Williams at 18:48. Anna Alreds of Meridian was third with a time of 18:54.
Jessica Arroyo of Northeast was fourth with a time of 19:30 and Meridian's Britteny Roberts was fifth at 19:53.
Completing Northeast's top five finishers are Carlisha Barfield (sixth with a time of 20:11), Whitney Ward (ninth – 20:33) and Candice White (15th – 21:55).
Brandon dominated the boys' meet with its Red team taking first place with 27 points and its White team taking second with 64 over the 5,000 meter run. Meridian placed third with 83 points, followed by Northeast (96), McComb (125), Laurel (146), Crystal Springs (172), Quitman (178), and Brookhaven (215).
Derrick Ray of Brandon Red was first, while teammate Will King was second. Both were clocked at 17:26. Quitman's McLarin Shepherd was fifth at 19:03.
Antonio Serton led Northeast with a sixth-place finish and a time of 19:04. Owen Little was 15th with a time of 20:50.
Antonio Sanders led the way for Meridian, turning in an eighth-place finish with a time of 19:33. Alex Jenkins was the other Wildcat in the top 15 finishers, placing 13th with a 20:30 run.
Also for Northeast, David Davis (21:11) was 18th, Hendrick Jefferson (21:31) was 24th, and Colin Doherty (22:52) was 33rd.
In the girls junior varsity division, Northeast's Brittany Bostic was second with a time of 20:51. Teammates were Bianca McDonald (seventh – 22:25), Tiera Amerson (12th – 25:03), Angel Morgan (26:40), and Codi Holifield (14th – 27:29).
In boys' JV action, Wright Hobgood turned in a time of 21:22, a school record for seventh graders at Northeast by better than three minutes.
Brach Barfield (18th – 24:22), Marcus Curtis (21st – 25:24), Justin Houston (27th – 29:50), and Vincent Armstrong (28th – 30:51) were the other top finishers for Northeast.
Northeast will host a meet on Thursday with the girls starting time at 4 p.m.
