SORTING THROUGH A MESS Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department sifts through a bag of trash Monday that was dumped in the Kewanee Baptist Cemetery. Gary Pickett, who owns land near the cemetery, said trash is regularly dumped there especially when the county's green garbage collection boxes are full. The garbage included a hand-written letter on a yellow note pad and purchase receipts. If law officers find the people responsible for dumping the trash at the cemetery, Calhoun said, they could face a fine of up to $25,000. Photo by Kyle Carter / The Meridian Star.
