MLT sets cast for 'Chicago'

The Meridian Little Theatre has announced the cast for its next production the Tony Award winning play "Chicago," which was adapted in 2002 into an Oscar-winning film.
The musical, set to be staged May 6-12, will have a cast of 40 talented actors.
Sarah Lofgren, a newcomer to MLT, won the role of Roxie. Sarah's theater experience includes the Joffrey Ballet in New York City, the Mobile Ballet and appearances in such productions as "Dracula," "Swan Lake," The Nutcracker," "La Bayadere," "Le Corsaire," "Grease" and "Crazy for You."
The coveted role of Velma went to Diana Eggler. She is a member of the Meridian Community College Chorus and the Variations; she also has appeared in MLT's "Annie."
Monte Royal, a veteran of the MLT stage, claimed the role of sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn. Royal won last year's MLT Gala Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical and was last seen in "A Christmas Story."
He is the owner of Royal/United Artists Bonita Lakes Cinema.
The role of Roxie's insignificant husband, Amos, went to Greg Snowden, another veteran actor. Snowden will be remembered as Seymour in "Little Shop of Horrors." Some of his other credits include "Man of La Mancha," "Guys and Dolls," "Cabaret" and "Forever Plaid."
Snowden, an attorney, is a Mississippi state representative.
The sought-after role of the prison matron "Mama" went to Jennifer Jones, who was previously seen in "Camelot."
The enviable roles of the five jailhouse femme fatales who killed their husbands went to Amy Goldman (Liz), Jessica Caillet (Annie), Kelly Smith (June), Leah Dudley Reed (Hanyuk), and Lindsay Knox (Mona).
News reporter Mary Sunshine went to Sara Zimmerman and Sgt. Fogarty will be played by Matt Walsh.
Stacy Pollock, who played the role of Blanche in "A Streetcar Named Desire," will play the role of "Go-to-Hell-Kitty."
The female dancers/chorus include: Kelly Bender, Kristy Bullock, Nicki Falgout, Nicola Fruge, Lauren Goodman, Bridget Hare, Leann Jackson, Stacey Jemison, Holly Jones, Sarah patterman, Stacy Pollock, ReCheal Redmond, Susan Sheehan, Amanda Todd and Paige Watson.
The male dancers/ chorus include: Matthew Allen, Joseph Johnson, Delvin McCann, Jon Palmer, Jay Ramey, Jordan Sims and Brian Slaton.
The play is directed by Jimmy Pigford, choreography is by Carol Merrill, and the choral director is Bob Hermetz. For information, call the theater's box office at 482-6371.
