HALEYVILLE – Despite the return of senior quarterback Jonathan Dill, the Phil Campbell Bobcats came up short Friday night at Haleyville.
The 4A Lions took advantage of five interceptions thrown by Dill, who missed most of the 2006 season with a broken foot, to down Phil Campbell 32-6 in the non-region matchup.
The Phil Campbell defense allowed just one score in the second half – a 1-yard touchdown by Destin Dye with 7:48 left in the third quarter – but gave up four touchdowns in the first half.
The Bobcats' offense was held scoreless by the Lions until the fourth quarter, when Dill found senior receiver Caleb Thompson for a 41-yard touchdown with no time left.
Dill led Phil Campbell with 54 yards on 11 attempts.
Jeremy White rushed for 152 yards and had three touchdowns to lead Haleyville, and Patrick Brown and Destin Dye both scored for the Lions.
Phil Campbell hosts Red Bay next Friday to open Class 2A, Region 8 play.
