WEST MORGAN – Despite taking an early lead, the Phil Campbell Bobcats fell to West Morgan 49-13 Thursday night in a game that was moved due to the possibility of inclement weather Friday night.
Phil Campbell (0-3, 0-2) struck early in this game after starting slowly in its previous two game. Running back Stephen Lacey reeled off a 24-yard run just a minute into the first quarter, and Adam Mitchell's PAT made it 7-0.
The Bobcats scored again with 4:18 left to play in the opening quarter when senior quarterback Jonathan Dill found Caleb Thompson for a 25-yard touchdown reception (no PAT) to put Phil Campbell ahead 13-0.
But West Morgan answered with two touchdowns by Terrence Howard in the last two minutes of the first quarter to go ahead 14-13.
Two more touchdowns in the second quarter by West Morgan increased its lead to 28-13 at halftime.
In the third quarter, West Morgan quarterback Josh McAbee tossed his second touchdown pass of the game and Blake Gohlston broke free for a 62-yard score to make it 42-13.
West Morgan backup quarterback David Pritchard found Austin Mason on its opening drive in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
West Morgan outgained the Bobcats 450-196 and forced them to punt nine times.
The Bobcats' offense didn't give up a turnover, and the defense forced three fumbles and recovered one.
Phil Campbell will host Tanner at 7 p.m. next Friday.
