Hazelwood defeats Red Devils 48-7

VINA – No. 4 Hazelwood seized control early and built a 28-point halftime lead to beat Vina 48-7 Friday night.
In the first quarter, the Golden Bears blocked a punt and returned it for a score and had rushing touchdowns from Carlos Holden and Don Jones to lead 21-0.
Jones added a 13-yard score with 3:47 left in the second quarter to give Hazelwood (7-0, 5-0) a 28-0 halftime lead.
The Golden Bears tacked on two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 15-yard score by Holden, to go ahead 41-0.
In the final quarter, senior Nash Creekmore put Vina on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown. Randy Barnes added the PAT to make it 41-7.
Hazelwood's Dave McCoy found the end zone from five yards with 38 seconds left to play for the final 48-7 margin.
Creekmore finished with 100 yards on 26 carries. Eighth-grader Adam Pharr took over at quarterback and was 2-of-4 with completions to Barnes and Creekmore.
Senior defensive back Blake Thorn led the Vina defense with one pass deflection and five tackles.
Vina (2-5, 0-5) will play at R.A. Hubbard next Friday.
