A big month of tournaments kicks off this weekend as the 5th Annual City Mixed Tournament gets under way at Dixie Bowl.
The tournament runs Oct. 6-7 and 13-14. Remember, teams consist of four members with any combination of men and women. The Doubles entries must include one man and one woman. Squad times are 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday each weekend. The entry fee is $20 per person per event. Though entries will be taken up to 30 minutes before each squad, you should get your entry early to insure a spot.
Both team and doubles winners will receive a cash award and a paid entry into the State Mixed Tournament to be held next month.
Entries close Thursday for the Mississippi WBA "Magic Age" Handicap Tournament which will be held at Dixie Bowl Oct. 20-21. The two-day event is open to all members of the Mississippi WBA who are 55 years of age or older. If you haven't turned in your entry, pick up your entry forms today.
Don't forget the YABA Halloween Scotch Doubles Oct. 27-28. The annual fund raiser for our local YABA bowlers will only cost $10 per person. In addition, a drawing for a 27 inch television will be held Oct. 28 at 1:30 pm, just prior to the start of the last squad. Remember, all proceeds for this event go to support our local youth bowlers!
Locally, Dennis Hobson led the way for the men last week by posting a 289/754 effort. Thomas Clay took High Game honors with an 11-in-a-row and a big tug to record a 2999 game. Nita Fike came close again by connecting for 10 straight strikes before ending with a 282 game. Both Nita and Shelia Dearman led the ladies with a 640 series.
