Neighbors at Deville Manor Apartments have devised a plan to help the victims of terrorism in New York City. Sharon Johnson, manager of the apartment complex, said residents have been busy making American flag pins to sell for charity.
The residents make the pins by cutting out the flag that appears every day in the upper right corner of The Meridian Star, pasting it on an index card for support, laminating it with scotch tape, attaching it to toothpicks and adding red, white and blue ribbons.
Hazel Burt, a resident of the complex, said she is glad to be helping out in this positive effort.
The pins sell for $2 and all the proceeds will go towards the Firemen's Disaster Fund for families of firefighters who lost their lives in New York City on Sept. 11. Johnson said residents decided on the firefighters' charity because of all the help the local fire department gives to them.
There are currently over 100 pins ready to sell, but Johnson said they'll make as many as are needed. Anyone who would like to purchase a pin can call Sharon Johnson at 483-6209.
