Hattie Crowell does not necessarily understand what all the recent hoopla was about concerning George Bush and Al Gore.
And she is not that worried about the new president's policies once he enters office.
But if you ask her what does interest her, you better be prepared to sit awhile.
Eventually, "Miss Hattie" as she is affectionately called by those who help take care of her settled down and married one of those beaus and raised a family. She has now outlived her husband, Mitchell Turner, and her only son, Rayfield.
Now, she has the Rev. Tony Burks and members of his church, St. Mary Baptist Church, to call family.
Burks said throughout those years Miss Hattie has surprised him time and time again.
Before arrangements could be made to place Miss Hattie under constant nursing care, she lived four years in the Burks' home.
Those at Meridian Community Living Center echo Burks' Thinking.
Roper said Miss Hattie's only wish on her birthday was for a warm dress something the employees of the center made sure she had.
