The Lamar School soccer Raiders have gotten off to a rousing start this season. Just a few weeks into the campaign, they have already compiled an 8-0-1 record.
Here is a look back at the Raiders' last couple of weeks of action.
On Monday, the Raiders forged a 2-2 tie with Jackson Academy to avoid their first loss. In that contest, the Raiders received goals from Austin Holmes and Randy Boyd Thompson, while the Raider defense kept JA out of the net a third time on the night.
On Saturday Dec. 9, They won the Starkville Academy tournament by beating Heritage Academy 8-1. Holmes again came up large, scoring a whopping five goals for LS. Other Raiders got into the act, as Josh Remy and Drew Moffett booted in three goals between them, including two from Moffett. Thompson also recorded an assist.
Earlier in the tournament, Lamar faced off with the host, Starkville Academy.
The result was a 4-1 win. Holmes had all four goals en route to the win while Thompson and Moffett each recorded assists. In the 2-1 win over Jackson Academy, it was Thompson putting in both scores and Lane Rush and Holmes adding assists.
Last week against Hillcrest Christian, the Raiders triumphed 3-0, with all three scores coming from Holmes.
The 10-1 victory over Covenant Christian saw a host of Raiders getting into the act. Ten different players scored including: Holmes, Chris Thompson, Rush, Nick Lisi, Thompson, Matt Griffin, Rush, Moffett, Cameron Sherrill, Josh Jordan and Robert Hull.
Presbyterian Christian fell 6-1 to the Lamar buzzsaw.
In that game, Holmes punched in three goals, while Lisi and Chris and Randy Boyd Thompson all had a goal each.
The Raiders have outscored their opponents 46-7 this season.
The Raiders will return to action Jan. 4 in the Starkville tourney.
