Armed Forces Museum to be dedicated Saturday
The Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby will be dedicated Saturday during an 11 a.m. ceremony.
The $4.5 million museum was approved by the state Legislature. The museum is dedicated to the preservation of military history in all branches of service, both in Mississippi and the nation.
U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawaii, will be the guest speaker. The senator has represented Hawaii in Congress ever since Hawaii became a state in 1959.
The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Deadline nears for Ageless Heroes' nominations
Nominations will be accepted until Friday for the annual Mississippi "Ageless Heroes" program.
The program honors 24 senior citizens in Mississippi for their activities, vitality and accomplishments. People may be nominated in six categories: community involvement, creativity, love of learning, new beginnings, good neighbor and vitality.

Vintage Wheels Club hosts Antique Car Show
The 29th annual Antique Car Show will be Saturday at Bonita Lakes Mall. The show is sponsored by the Bonita Lakes Mall Merchants Association and hosted by the Vintage Wheels Club of Meridian.
Antique classic vehicles dating from 1910 to special interest cars of the 1960s and late 1970s will be on display. Registration starts at 7 a.m., with judging at 1 p.m. and trophies presented at 4 p.m. The public is invited.
Make a Difference Day set for Saturday
Make a Difference Day will be observed across the country on Saturday. The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce, the event's sponsor, asks every person in the county to do a random act of kindness for someone that day. This can be done for a friend, family member or stranger. If you are a recipient of one of these random acts of kindness, please call the Chamber of Commerce at 776-5701.
St. Patrick hosts fall festival
St. Patrick School will host its annual Fall Carnival and Spaghetti Dinner from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center, next to the school at 2700 Davis St.
Admission is $1 each, with a maximum of $5 a family. The carnival will feature food, games, a costume contest, a haunted house and more.
Spaghetti dinners will be served from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for $5 a plate. Take-outs are available, and orders of 10 or more can be delivered.
Kemper Academy hosts Halloween Carnival
Kemper Academy will host a Halloween Carnival beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.
The carnival will feature a hay ride, pre-school costume contest and pumpkin decorating contest. Concessions and games will be available. Game tickets are 50 cents each.

Meeting set to gauge interest in American Legion
People interested in re-activating the American Legion Post in Quitman will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in the meeting room of Mississippi Power Co.
Any veteran who served during a time of war or national emergency is eligible to join the American Legion. The American Legion offers many programs, including scholarships for local youths.

Exotic Bird Fair this weekend in Jackson
The 7th semi-annual Exotic Bird Fair will be in Jackson this weekend. Birds include canaries and macaws.
Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson Fairgrounds Agriculture Building.

Daughters of Elks to host "An American Tea"
R.B. Matthews Temple No. 739, Daughters of Elks, will host their annual October Tea at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event, "An American Tea," will feature patriotic orations, speeches and songs. The event also will have raffles and door prizes.
Admission will be two canned food items per person. The donations will be used to assist the Daughters of the Elks with Thanksgiving community service projects.

Newton County offering flu shots
The Newton County Health Department will offer flu shots Oct. 31. For people with Medicare Part B or Medicaid, the shot will be free. Other wise, the shot is $10.

Saddle Club holds fall trail ride
The Bonita Lakes Saddle Club in conjunction with the Lauderdale County Agri-Center is sponsoring the Fall Trail Ride on Nov. 3. Registration will be from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Agri-Center. The morning ride will be from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon-1 p.m. The afternoon ride is scheduled from 1:30 p.m.-4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The gate fee is $15 a person. The cost for children under 12 is $5. Owners must have proof of negative Coggins tests for their horses. No dogs will be allowed on the trail ride.
