MCC inducts new Phi Theta Kappa members

Describing them as "winners who keep their promises," Meridian Community College President Scott Elliott congratulated and encouraged new members of Phi Theta Kappa on Thursday.
Barbara Jones, an advisor of the MCC chapter, Nu Upsilon, said that only 8 percent to 10 percent of the top community college students are invited to join PTK the national honor society for community and junior colleges.
PTK promotes leadership, scholarship, service and fellowship. Membership is open to any student who has earned 12 semester hours and has a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
During the ceremony, Nu Upsilon officers were recognized: Alison Davis, president; Phillip Henricks, vice president of scholarship; Trent Hughes, vice president of service; Shawn Stewart, vice president of leadership, Melissa Wooten, vice president of fellowship; David Close, reporter; Courtney Darnell, secretary; Jason Holladay, treasurer; and Mandy Snell, historian. Executive board members are Joel Stinson, Jared Rainer, Jared Wright and Keith Jacoby.
Fall inductees included John Ash, Sheila Benson, Katherine Blackburn, Natesha Blaylock, La'Toya Capers, Russell Carr, Rosie Cole, James Dearman, Stephanie Dixon, Daniel Doolittle, Celesta Clark, Amanda Eason, Sarah Fox, Hyun Fritts, Kathleen Goodwin, Karl Greene, Gwendolyn Hall and Christina Hearn.
