Prep football playoffs abound in The Meridian Star coverage area, with 16 local schools being involved, but that's not slowing down the high school basketball season too much.
It is, however, causing the schedules to be arranged.
Due to Quitman High School making the playoffs, the Quitman Invitational Tournament will be played tonight, Thursday and Saturday. Tonight's portion of the round-robin event has the Meridian High School and Quitman girls playing at 6 p.m., followed by the two boys squads at 7:30.
On Thursday it is Harrison Central and Quitman at the same times, with MHS and Harrison Central squaring off on Saturday.
The Lauderdale County Tournament being hosted at MCC's Ivy Sports Center is set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. West and Southeast meet at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Clarkdale and Northeast Lauderdale at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Northeast and West are the early games on Friday, followed by Southeast and Clarkdale. On Saturday, Southeast and Northeast play early and West and Clarkdale face off late.
