Meridian bowlers continue to sparkle as the glitter of the Holiday Season approaches. A plethora of big numbers dominated the scoreboard in this weeks competition.
Leading the way for the ladies was "The Kemper County Flash", aka Janie Tisdale, who put together games of 248 and 267 while stomping the opposing team with a 674 series. Teammate Willie Mae Aikens got into the act by posting a 246/643 effort. Penny Ivey added her two cents and scattered the pins for a 243 game in Dixie Belle action. Marlene Stokes fired a nice 238 and scattered the pins for a 243 game in Dixie Belle action. Greg Taylor strung together 10 strikes in a row for a career high 288 game to lead the men in that category while Johnnie Blackmon continues to stay on fire by carding a 760 series to take the high series for the week. Others topping the "7" mark included Barry Woods (756), Tyrone McAlpine (747), Leon Fike (738), Bill Fike (738), Alan Terral (705), Billy Priester (703) and M.A. Copeland (702). Tim Van Doren, Stan Bottorff and Tyrone McAlpine all reeled off 279s. Congratulations to Don McKee who completed the rare triplicate by punching out three 181s in the Wednesday Night Mixed league.
For the third time in three weeks, Meridian bowlers have had to say a sad farewell to one of our own when longtime bowler Jim Rush passed away last week. Jim was an active member of the Tuesday Night Mixed league at the time of his death and had bowled in several other leagues in his lengthy bowling career. We will miss his presence and extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
As the holidays approach, we would like to extend to all our customers a sincere Thank You for being a part of our bowling family during the past year and wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful holiday season. While Thursday and Friday leagues take the week off, Dixie Bowl will be open Thanksgiving Day, so after the turkey and dressing have settled, come join us for a weekend of fun and relaxation.
