A warm welcome to the year 2001
By Staff
We awoke this morning to a fresh start, a blank page, a second chance, a new year. While experts may argue over whether the new millennium actually starts today or whether it started on this day a year ago, of one thing we are certain:
The year 2001 began at a second past the stroke of midnight. The new year we've awaited for 12 months is here and the clock is already ticking.
Traditionally, the beginning of a new year is an opportunity to resolve that things will be better, to cure old ills, change old habits.
Will we use the new year as an opportunity to resolve local controversies? Will, as has been reported, two incumbent Mississippi congressman be forced to battle it out for a single seat in the U.S. House?
Will we learn how to work together to move Meridian, Lauderdale County, indeed, all of East Mississippi to a higher level of economic, cultural, educational achievement?
Today, The Meridian Star makes only one resolution: To present our readers each day with the very best community newspaper this staff is capable of producing.
While some things may change this year a new look, perhaps; a feature added, perhaps one thing remains the same:
You, our readers, are the judge of our success. You are the reason for The Star's existence. We take that role very seriously and look forward to living up to your expectations.
