As a new mother, Gidgett Fox wants more for her 5-month-old daughter, Mackensie.
Fox, who is from Philadelphia, is 22 years old. She has received a special Mother's Day gift this year the Mae Carroll Thornton Mother's Day Scholarship.
Established by then-Meridian physician Bill Thornton to pay tribute to his wife, Mae Carroll, the $600 scholarship is for mothers who are studying at MCC. The scholarship is funded through The MCC Foundation.
Surprised and excited about the scholarship, Fox said she was proud, too.
Though Fox had earlier enrolled in college to pursue a career in teaching, she left. It was her mother who encouraged her to return, and now she is a freshman studying medical office technology.
Fox has gotten into the swing of things at college and is a member of the campus organization, Phi Beta Lambda.
Being a single mom, a full-time student and a part-time employee at MCC and Neshoba General Hospital, Fox juggles it all with help from friends, family and prayer.
