Meridian fire fighters battled an early morning fire today that destroyed a downtown home.
There were no reports of injuries in the 5:30 a.m. blaze at the home, located at 1721 36th Ave.
Six units with the fire department responded to the blaze. Battalion Chief Howard Gibson said when officials arrived on the scene smoke was pouring out of the attic area of the home.
Gibson said the house would probably be designated a total loss. Most damage appeared to have occurred in the upper level of the structure.
Gibson said the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
