On Saturday Oct. 21, 2000, Ron Fagan and Sharon Shelby climbed aboard a jet helicopter flying at 200 miles per hour and exchanged wedding vows.
The couple, who have always had a love for the mountains, wanted their marriage to take place at 5,000 feet above the Smokey Mountains National Park.
The bride was given in marriage by her son, Daricek Shelby, who also served as best man. Also attending and riding in the helicopter were Crystal Gandy, Bettye Woodward, Charlie Greenlee, Dr. Liz Hickman and Andy Jones.
Parents of the couple are Bettye Woodward and the late Ruby Daricek, and Robert and Grace Fagan, all of Meridian. Christie Pittman and Amanda Fagan, both of Jackson, are daughter's of the bridegroom.
The bridegroom is employed by General Motors of Bowling Green, Ky. and the bride is retired from General Motors. They are both former employees of Delco Remy, where they worked for 18 years.
The couple plans a return honeymoon to Gatlinburg in November. They currently reside in Meridian.
