Friends of fire victims Grace and Josh McGlothin will hold a benefit concert today at the Temple Theatre in downtown Meridian to help raise money for medical and living expenses.
The family's home burned Oct. 6.
Josh McGlothin, a 17-year-old Meridian High School band member, suffered smoke inhalation in the fire. He is still unconscious in a Slidell, La., hospital, said family friend Courtney Horton.
Meridian Fire Inspector Angela Williams said the teen-ager was asleep in the home at 5603 Cooper Circle when the fire broke out around 2:20 a.m. His mother was at work at Avery Dennison, she said.
Inspectors have not determined a cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.
Williams said firefighters Jay Mackey and Eric Pollard pulled the teen-ager from the burning home. After treatment in the intensive care unit of a local hospital, Josh was transferred to the Slidell hospital for more specialized care.
Horton said the benefit concert will feature local singer Jennifer Whitley, who sings regularly at area churches.
The concert, called "Always Christmas," is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Temple Theater. The cost is a $5 donation. The concert is scheduled to last about 90 minutes, Horton said.
