Leake rolls over Kemper Academy

DECATUR A year ago, the Kemper Academy boys beat Leake Academy for one of the few times in the series at the MPSA Central Mississippi Classic.
Wednesday night, the Leake squad made sure history would not repeat itself anytime soon as the Rebels rolled to a 59-35 win over the Rams in the 2000 MPSA Central Mississippi Classic.
The loss snapped Kemper's 11-game win streak.
After the teams battled to a 6-6 draw over the first quarter, Leake owned the second period 22-7 to take a 28-13 lead into halftime.
Justin Wilkerson hit all nine of his points in the game from 3-point range in the third quarter as the Rebels extended their advantage to 44-21.
Leake, 14-3, got 17 points from Drew Wolverton, 14 from Luke Culpepper, and nine each from Wilkerson and Derek Freeny.
John Alan Darnell led Kemper, 11-2, with 12 points. Justin Robertson scored eight.
Newton boys 61, Sylva-Bay 46: The Generals outscored the Saints in each of the final three quarters in taking the 15-point win.
Sylva-Bay led 16-13 after one quarter, but NCA led by one (29-28) at halftime. The Generals were up 45-38 by the end of the third period.
Daniel Champion scored 20 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, to lead the Generals, 7-6. Kyle Chaney hit four 3-pointers to total 12 points. Jason Frith also scored 12. David White added nine and Nathan Stamper tossed in six.
Frith also had 16 rebounds and four assists. Champion had six rebounds and four steals, while Stamper had six rebounds and four assists.
Andres Norvell led Sylva-Bay, 8-6, with 16 points. Kaleb Deese scored 14, Justin Smith had eight, and Tate Huff had six.
Indianola boys 50, Winston 45: Indianola outscored Winston 15-10 in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Indianola led 17-11 after one quarter, but the Patriots rallied to take a 29-25 lead into halftime behind six second quarter points from Caleb Metts, five from Phillip Harrison, and four from Taylor McNeel.
The contest was knotted at 35-35 through three quarters.
Winston, 5-8, got 13 points from Harrison, 11 from McNeel, and 10 from Metts.
Indianola, 8-13, got 13 points from Henry Gantz, 10 from Parker Reynolds, and nine from Joseph Schlatter.
