Bond has been set at $50,000 for a Marion man charged with assaulting a Marion police officer on Saturday.
Dan E. Person Jr., 26, of Marion, was initially charged with disorderly conduct after he allegedly struck Marion police officer Daryl Hobson in the head with a 40-ounce beer bottle.
Additional charges of simple assault on a police officer, a felony, and two counts of trespassing were filed following an investigation into the incident, said Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie.
Hobson was hospitalized Saturday and kept overnight in the intensive care unit at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was released Sunday, Sollie said.
Marion Police Chief Kevin Taylor said Hobson is still suffering from pain and vision problems in his left eye.
It was Dan Person's mother, Edna Person, who called the police because her son was "acting up." She alleges police misconduct, but no formal complaints or charges have been filed with either Taylor or Sollie.
Maj. Ward Calhoun said sheriff's deputies had been called as backup for Marion police following the disturbance call at a mobile home off Confederate Drive. The deputies were present at the time of the assault, he said.
Also taken into custody were Person's cousin, Cora L. Brown, 43, of 6441 Chickasaw St., and Person's brother, Calvin Person, 24, of Marion. Brown was charged with failure to produce identification, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public profanity. Calvin Person is charged with disorderly conduct.
Brown is free on $1,600 bond. Dan and Calvin Person remain in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
