A local mother is in Pennsylvania today with her 9-month-old son, who is awaiting heart surgery. And, Sharon Morgan is hoping Meridian area residents will help finance the trip.
Morgan left Meridian Saturday to take her son, Tyler, to the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia for heart valve repair or replacement surgery, scheduled Tuesday.
The child's surgery is covered by disability insurance and Medicaid coverage, and an account has been established at a local bank to help defray other medical expenses.
aunt. "Due to Tyler's medical condition, my sister-in-law had to leave her job to stay home with Tyler since birth."
Tyler was born at Rush Foundation Hospital in March and transferred to the University Medical Center in Jackson, where he was diagnosed with the
condition and then rushed to Philadelphia, Penn., for his first heart catherization. He was 18 days old before he came home.
Since then he has had two more heart catherizations at UMC to help relieve the pressure in his heart and lungs. The pressure build-up is causing
damage to the heart, lungs and other vital organs.
A benefit account for the family has been established at Trustmark and donations may be made at any branch.
