The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision involving two 18-wheelers Friday.
Sgt. Ronnie Carter said the call was received at 10:38 a.m. to an accident just east of the Highway 16 intersection with Highway 45. He said a 1994 Peterbilt tractor-trailer truck driven by Raymond L. Herring of Shawnee, Okla., was involved in a collision with a 1987 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by Alice J. Sledge of Columbus.
Sledge, who was traveling eastbound when the accident occurred, was transported by ambulance to Riley Hospital in Meridian. At press time, the extent of her injuries was not known.
Highway Patrolmen Billy Ray Atkinson and Maurice Fleming responded to the mishap, as did Kemper County sheriff's deputies and units with the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
