A Northeast High School student was suspended Friday morning after authorities discovered the 10th-grader was pocketing a knife.
Principal David Litton said school officials had reports several days earlier that the student had a knife on the school bus.
Litton said he does not know what type of knife it was, just that "it was a small knife." The student apparently had no intention of hurting anyone, he said.
Ed Mosley, assistant superintendent of the Lauderdale County School District, said the teen-ager had allegedly cut a seat on the school bus with the knife. The district will enforce the zero-tolerance policy and recommend expulsion in the case, he said.
Lauderdale County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the school Friday to transport the boy to the Lauderdale County Juvenile Center.
