Meridian police officers were asked to respond to an unusual downtown accident Friday morning involving a motorist and a deer.
The accident was the second of its kind since last week, when a deer was struck on North Hills Street at 29th Avenue.
Sgt. David Latting, Meridian Police Department shift commander, said the Friday morning accident occurred on the corner of Eighth Street and 35th Avenue.
The responding officer did a triple-take when he was dispatched, and verified the address three times. When the officer arrived, the motorist had left, Latting said. The deer, a full-grown doe, died soon after police arrived.
Latting said police had no idea who the motorist was, what direction he was traveling when the accident occurred or how the deer happened into the area.
Latting said the driver was apparently uninjured. No one knows who reported the accident, which came through the 911 dispatching center, he said.
