After coming off an impressive 5-1 win over Laurel, the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans looked to improve on their division record Thursday night as they entertained West Jones.
However, the Mustangs had plans of their own as they took a methodical 12-1 victory.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning off of three singles by Robert White, Luke Johnson, and Eric Barkley.
West Jones then rallied in the final four innings, scoring seven runs to take the easy win.
Northeast's lone run came off a fifth inning home run by Dusty Hedgpeth.
West Jones got a pair of 3-for-4 performances from Michael Johnson and White.
Eric Barkley and Matt Hopkins also added two runs apiece. Johnson and Donnie Dearman contributed one run each. Barkley picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.
He pitched the entire game, giving up just one run on two hits, with no walks, and six strikeouts.
Hedgpeth went 1-for-2 for Northeast. Stephen Bergin took the loss for the Trojans. He pitched one inning, giving up eight runs on eight hits, walked two, and striking out two.
Kyle Stoddard pitched four innings, giving up four runs on four hits, and walking three, and striking out one.
The Mustangs will play today against Northeast Jones. Northeast (3-3, 1-1 district) will also play today at Mendenhall. The game that was originally scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
